North West is in the news for showcasing one of her boldest piercings yet. The 12-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West took to TikTok to reveal her new finger piercings.
In a series of images, North flaunted two sparkling dermal piercings, tiny jewels embedded beneath her skin on her hand. One photo highlighted a dual piercing on her right middle finger. Another displayed a striking blue gem on her left.
While the unique jewelry drew plenty of attention, not everyone was on board with the idea.
For those who might not know, a dermal piercing differs from a traditional earring piercing. It involves a small anchor placed under the skin, requiring a surgical procedure, and it’s considered risky since the jewelry can easily get caught on things. Given that it’s on her hands, which are constantly in use, the healing process can be particularly challenging.
Once screenshots of North’s TikTok made their way to Reddit, a wave of criticism directed at Kim Kardashian followed. Critics expressed worry about allowing her daughter to get what they deemed a “dangerous” and “adult” piercing. “She’s only 12!” exclaimed one commenter. Others expressed concern that North was maturing too quickly in the public eye.
This isn’t the first time Kim has faced criticism over North’s fashion choices. Just last month, the SKIMS founder was called out after her daughter showed up online with fake face tattoos, grillz, and a nose ring. In response to the backlash, Kim candidly addressed the challenges of raising a preteen in the spotlight, admitting she’s made mistakes and asking for “a little bit of grace” from fans.
Despite the criticism, North West continues to express herself fearlessly, whether it’s through her fashion, makeup, or now, her piercings.
