A Newton, Georgia, family is expressing their anger and concern after their 6-year-old daughter, Aylah, returned home from school without her shorts, having spent several hours in only a T-shirt and underwear.
Aylah’s mother, Avishaye Daniels, explained that she sent her daughter to school fully dressed, but was shocked to find her missing her bottoms when she returned home.
“I was mad, but I was more shocked than anything,” Daniels said.
According to WALB 10 News, the incident occurred at a chalk party at the school, where students’ clothes became dirty. The school contacted Aylah’s parents, asking them to bring her a clean shirt.
However, after changing into the clean shirt, Aylah reportedly forgot to put her shorts back on, and her teacher failed to notice.
Aylah’s father, Daman Bell, expressed disbelief, stating:
“How can you look over my 6-year-old daughter in just a T-shirt and panties, socks, and shoes for three hours?”
The school’s principal, Jeff Henderson, acknowledged the oversight and stated that Aylah’s long T-shirt, which extended nearly to her knees, contributed to the situation going unnoticed.
Principal Henderson reassured the community that school authorities, along with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, reviewed surveillance footage to ensure nothing inappropriate occurred while Aylah was without her shorts.
“The safety of the students was never compromised,” he assured.
Despite the apologies from both the principal and the school superintendent, Aylah’s parents remain unsatisfied, demanding further action and a thorough review of the situation.
Daniels and Bell are seeking measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, stating they will continue to voice their concerns until they see meaningful change.
