Pretty Vee has spoken out after facing backlash for telling Soulja Boy, “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”

Comedian Pretty Vee has found herself at the center of controversy for allegedly mocking Sonya Massey after defending her friend B. Simone from Soulja Boy’s scathing insults.

It all started when B. Simone threw some serious shade at Soulja Boy in the latest episode of her Let’s Try This Again podcast earlier this week.

Simone then backpedaled slightly, praising him as a “hip hop legend” and a “trendsetter.” Unfortunately, it appears that the damage was already done.

Soulja Boy also went on Instagram Live to respond and went all out on the podcaster.

In a lengthy rant, he chastised Simone for dissing him, criticizing her career, appearance, and more. He even accused her of attempting to hook up with him on the set of Wild ‘n Out, claiming he declined.

At this point, Pretty Vee jumped in to defend Simone in the Shade Room comments but ended up getting herself in trouble after she “rebuked” Soulja Boy.

Fans quickly pointed out that it was insensitive of her to use that exact phrase since it was the same thing that Sonya Massey said right before the police shot her in the face.

Sonya Massey, a 35-year-old mother of two, was brutally murdered in her home after calling 911 for assistance earlier this month in Springfield, Illinois.

In response to the backlash, Pretty Vee took to Instagram Live to address the situation. She clarified that she had no intention of disrespecting Massey.

“I would never ever, like I said, disrespect anybody, especially Miss Sonya,” Pretty Vee began. “I know the times we are living in. I get it. I understand it. But you have somebody who disrespected someone that you guys love. And you guys are telling me that I can’t speak my mind? And tell this person that he’s a living creature that needs to be rebuked?”

She continued, “This is somebody who was bullied on live, on Shade Room; why would I not pick up my friend? Why would I not say that he needs to be rebuked? We said that in church. We say that every day. Why are y’all acting weird right now? Why are y’all acting like somebody can’t say that word?”

Pretty Vee kept explaining that she used the phrase to describe Soulja Boy’s mean behavior.

“Again, when you direct somebody, you call out their name, and that’s a demon. I don’t care; that’s what it is for me. I don’t need to come out here and talk about it anymore.

“I understand the sensitivity surrounding that and would never disrespect Miss Sonya. I really, truly, and sincerely mean that.
From the bottom of my heart, I would not do that. Y’all know what I meant,” Pretty Vee emphasized before concluding, “Anywho, I love y’all so much. Whoever gets it gets it.”

Despite the apology, the incident has sparked a debate about the boundaries of comedy and public figures’ duty to consider how their content may be interpreted.
