In a recent exchange with Joy Reid on The Reid Out, Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas voiced her support for federal workers facing uncertainty and fear amid political turmoil.
Crockett, a rising star in Congress, offered a bold message to workers who fear they may lose their jobs or face further instability, stressing the importance of staying engaged in the fight for their rights.
During the interview, Reid highlighted the growing anxiety among federal employees, noting their fears of not knowing whether anyone in Congress could stop the ongoing political drama. In response, Rep. Crockett made it clear that she doesn’t believe the actions currently being taken are legal.
“If I was to put on my legal hat, I would say stay in this fight. You have worked for this country, not for the paycheck, but because you care. You are true civil servants,” Crockett said.
She urged workers to continue their dedication despite the challenging situation.
Crockett pointed out that the power of the purse lies with Congress, underscoring that any buyouts or funding decisions made by the executive branch have not been authorized by lawmakers.
“I don’t know where he’s getting this money from. Is Elon pitching in? I’m not really sure,” Crockett quipped, alluding to the president’s actions, which she deemed questionable in the context of legal authorization.
She reassured federal workers that she and her colleagues in Congress are not backing down.
“I will be right there with you fighting every step of the way, whether it means filing Amicus briefs in court, trying to rein in his control on the House floor with privileged motions, or working in a bicameral way with our senators to push them to be as aggressive as possible,” she vowed.
Crockett emphasized that she and her fellow lawmakers are doing everything they can to block unconstitutional actions, particularly in response to new presidential nominations that have raised concerns.
She stressed the urgency of the situation, urging lawmakers in the Senate to join the fight against what she described as “business as usual” when it comes to the president’s controversial decisions.
Rep. Crockett’s remarks come at a time when federal workers and their unions are raising alarms about ongoing challenges related to the federal workforce.
