At the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, Doja Cat ate her lipstick right on the red carpet! And believe it or not, she swallowed it.
Fans were initially taken aback. Clad in dazzling ’80s glamour with a striking platinum blonde hairstyle and feathery bangs, Doja casually pulled out a tube of bright red lipstick during an interview. She applied a bit for a touch-up…and then bit into it as if it were a tasty snack.
Social media exploded with reactions, as memes flooded in almost instantly. People were questioning, “Did Doja really just eat her lipstick??” But in classic Doja style, there was a method to the madness. The shocking act was actually part of her big reveal: she is now the new face of MAC Cosmetics. The lipstick she “consumed” was MAC’s famous MACximal Silky Matte Lipstick in Lady Danger, a bold red that she has often worn.
It turns out that Doja wasn’t gnawing on a standard lipstick. The brilliant folks at MAC teamed up with viral pastry artist Amaury Guichon, known as the “chocolate guy”, to craft edible versions of the lipstick for the stunt. He created at least two dozen of these treats, and MAC even shared the creative process on Instagram.
This publicity couldn’t have come at a better time for Doja, who is gearing up for her fifth studio album, Vie, which is heavily inspired by the ’80s. She’s embracing everything from mullets to striking brows, and even edible lipstick!
