‘Trump Is Unhinged’: Rep. Shontel Brown Calls for Vote to End U.S. Involvement in Iran Conflict

by Gee NY

U.S. Representative Shontel Brown is calling for immediate congressional action to end American involvement in the escalating conflict with Iran, sharply criticizing Donald Trump in a viral social media post.

In a video shared on Instagram, Brown accused the former president of reversing key campaign promises and pushing the country deeper into instability.

“Trump promised to lower costs and end foreign wars. He’s done the exact opposite,” Brown said. “Trump is unhinged. He’s wrecked our economy and he’s costing taxpayers over a billion dollars a day.”

Call for Congressional Action

Brown urged House leadership, specifically Mike Johnson, to allow a vote that would limit presidential war powers and bring U.S. military involvement to an end.

“It is time for Speaker Mike Johnson to let the House vote so that we can rein in this dangerous president,” she said.

The congresswoman noted that she has already voted once to end U.S. involvement and expressed readiness to do so again, stressing that bipartisan support could be key.

“We only need a few House Republicans to stand with us and do the right thing,” she added.

Criticism Over War Rhetoric

In her remarks, Brown also condemned recent statements by Trump regarding the conflict, describing them as “maniacal, immoral, and dangerous.” She further alleged that some of his rhetoric could escalate tensions and lead to greater loss of life.

Her comments reflect growing divisions in Washington over U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding military engagement in the Middle East and the scope of presidential authority in initiating or continuing armed conflict.

Broader Political Context

The debate comes amid renewed scrutiny of the War Powers Resolution and the role Congress plays in authorizing military action. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have increasingly called for clearer limits on executive authority in matters of war.

While Trump has defended his approach to foreign policy as necessary for national security, critics argue that prolonged conflict risks both economic strain and humanitarian consequences.

Ongoing Debate

Brown’s statements are gaining traction online, adding to the broader national conversation about U.S. involvement abroad and the financial and human costs of war.

The push for a congressional vote could become a pivotal moment in determining the direction of U.S. policy toward Iran—and the balance of power between Congress and the presidency.
