Whoopi Goldberg is not interested in getting married again after trying three times.
Whoopi Goldberg has always been open about the fact that marriage isn’t what she was meant to be.
The View co-host previously stated that getting married is an emotional investment, like raising a child. And she’s not willing to make that investment again.
The EGOT winner has been outspoken about her opinions on marriage and her intention to never get married again since her third divorce.
Whoopi Goldberg appeared on “The Don Lemon Show” to discuss her new memoir, “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me.” During the episode, she divulged the unique part of her relationships and intimacy.
“The truth is, I’m fundamentally selfish. I found out that because I have a wonderful kid, a son-in-law, and three grandkids, I don’t have time for a whole lot of other people coming into my life.
“Hit and runs are great. I don’t mind those. But you can’t find the night,” Goldberg disclosed.
The actress also noted that one needs to give oneself permission to explore one’s sexuality outside of social constructs.
“You know, ‘Oh, am I a whore? Am I this? Am I a terrible person because I don’t want to…’ and never really thought about it,” she said. “I just thought, ‘Well, I must be doing it wrong, ’cause other people seem to be able to have figured it out,'” The View co-host continued.
“At this point in my life, I don’t really want that. I just want to see you when I see you, and then you go.”
Whoopi Goldberg has three marriages under her belt. In 1973, at the age of 18, she married drug counselor Alvin Martin. That same year, the couple welcomed a daughter named Alexandrea. Six years later, in 1979, the couple filed for divorce.
Then, from 1986 to 1988, she was wed to cinematographer David Claessen. Actor Lyle Trachtenberg was the subject of her third and final marriage, which ended in divorce the following year.
