Rapper Big Sean has finally addressed the long-held question on everyone’s lips: Why hasn’t he married his longtime partner Jhené Aiko?
Jhené Aiko recently informed Big Sean that his ‘Beware’ lyrics did not match real life when the rapper joined her on stage at her sold-out show in Los Angeles on Wednesday (July 31).
Big Sean wrapped up the show with a duet of their 2013 collaboration, ‘Beware,’ featuring Lil Wayne. As he rapped, Aiko pretended to be in the middle of an argument, making dismissive gestures towards him.
When he reached the lyrics “Got a Ring,” the singer looked at her hand, turned to face him, and asked, “What ring?” into the microphone. Big Sean walked over, holding back a laugh, and tapped Jhené’s hand.
Shortly after the 12-second clip went viral, Charlamagne Tha God released an ‘Outta Context’ sit-down video interview with Sean where the rapper detailed why he hasn’t married Jhené Aiko.
Jhené Aiko and Big Sean have been collaborating on music and dating on and off since the release of their album, Twenty88, in 2016.
In November 2022, the couple announced the birth of their son, Noah Hasani, on Instagram. Aiko is already the mother of a teenage daughter, Namiko Love, whom she shares with singer O’Ryan.
Big Sean disclosed he isn’t ready to walk down the aisle with his longtime, on-again, off-again girlfriend, Jhené Aiko.
The Detroit rapper addressed the issue after Charlamagne questioned why he and Aiko haven’t married and whether there is a “secret industry marriage” at work.
“No, no, there has not been a secret industry marriage,” Sean clarified. “It’s a little personal, you know what I mean? But just like to be real with you, just like any people who have dealt with love, we’ve had our ups and downs, you know what I’m saying? And I think it’s still finding the right navigation through it all.”
For the 36-year-old artist, “marriage symbolizes the best relationship,” and he believes having a firm foundation is important.
“A lot of people get the idea of, like, ‘Oh, you have to get married.’ But to me, that’s almost a fear-based way of thinking because then people are getting divorced. The divorce rate is so fucking high,” he added.
Sean stated that he is not ruling out marrying his Twenty88 collaborator, but “there’s a lot of work that needs to be done in general.”
Sean had previously proposed to his ex-girlfriend, Naya Rivera, in October 2013. However, the rapper and Naya, who died in 2020, ended their engagement six months later.
