A tragic incident unfolded in Birmingham as the lifeless body of Mahogany Jackson was discovered on a roadside early Monday morning, just one day after she had messaged her family members, expressing that she was being held hostage.
According to reports from AL.com, Jackson’s family members raised the alarm on Sunday after receiving distressing texts from her, indicating that she was in peril.
Jackson’s mother, Gail Maddox, recounted receiving messages from her daughter urging them to call the police as she claimed to be held against her will.
Maddox immediately alerted the authorities, who accompanied the family to Serenity Apartments, where Jackson was believed to be located.
Upon reaching the apartment complex, Jackson’s acquaintances informed the authorities that she had left the unit around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
However, Maddox contested this account, pointing out that Jackson had shared her location with family members from that very spot at 7:46 a.m. Despite thorough searches conducted by the police, Jackson remained unaccounted for.
Tragically, Jackson’s lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Monday morning by a passerby at the intersection of 17th Street S.W. and Laurel Avenue.
Birmingham police and emergency services responded to the scene and confirmed that Jackson had succumbed to a gunshot wound.
In a heart-wrenching Facebook post, Maddox expressed her grief over the loss of her daughter, stating:
As of now, the authorities have not released any information regarding suspects involved in Jackson’s untimely death.
The community mourns the loss of Mahogany Jackson as they await further developments in this ongoing investigation.
