Woman Furious After Her Doctor Writes ‘King Kong’ on Her Blood Test Kit: ‘That’s Unacceptable’

by Gee NY

A Black woman is speaking out after making a shocking discovery at her doctor’s office.

Kierra King visited the Perlman Clinic for a routine appointment, only to find that her blood test kit had been labeled with the name “King, Kong” instead of her actual name, “King, Kierra.

King took to TikTok to share the disturbing moment, expressing outrage over what she perceived as a blatant racial slur. In the viral video, she immediately confronted the nurse about the offensive label, questioning how such an “error” could occur.

“That’s unacceptable. Even if it is a typo, which if they want to pull that and say what it is—how?! Seriously?!” she exclaimed in the video.

@Perlmanclinic this is beyond unacceptable. my story is just one instance of blatant racism. things like this are happening every single day. i am making the decision to use my personal social media as a platform to continue to bring awareness to the gravity of how out of control things have gotten in the united states and in the world. this action is incomprehensibly bad. it’s the kind of action that leaves one without words. do better humans. do better. #california #unitedstateshealthcare #unacceptable #racism #disappointedbutnotsurprised

The medical assistant responsible for the labeling attempted to explain the mistake, insisting it was not intentional. However, King was not convinced, stating that such a misstep was too specific to be accidental.

Following the backlash, the Perlman Clinic issued a public apology:

“We are aware of the recent incident and take it very seriously. We sincerely regret the harm caused and are actively addressing it to ensure accountability and meaningful change. Our commitment remains the same – to be a trusted, accessible healthcare home for every patient we serve.”

Despite the statement, the incident has sparked widespread conversations about racism in healthcare and the need for stronger accountability in medical settings.

One commenter wrote:

“As a medical assistant, we check those labels so many times before printing them because if its wrong, the lab will enter the test as invalid. This was so intentional. I’m so sorry.”
