Young Mom Among Three Killed in Tragic Triple Murder-Suicide: ‘She Was a Bright Light’

by Gee NY

A devastating act of violence has left a Bloomington, Indiana, community in mourning after 33-year-old Trina Hollings and two others were shot and killed in a triple murder-suicide on Feb. 23, 2025.

Authorities say the Bloomington Police Department responded to a call on Sunday afternoon and found Hollings, her friend Chelsea Lusher, 31, and Lusher’s 13-year-old son, Armoni Bennett, dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside a home.

The suspected gunman, Christopher Simmons, Lusher’s boyfriend, reportedly turned the gun on himself after killing the three victims.

A Community in Mourning

Hollings’ family and friends described her as a loving, selfless person who always put others first. A GoFundMe campaign launched in her memory states:

“To know Trina was to know the most beautiful soul in the room. She was always putting her family first and protecting the ones she loved the most. She was such a bright light.”

At a vigil held for the victims, Amber Thompson, Lusher’s sister and Bennett’s aunt, urged others to take domestic violence seriously.

“If you’re in a domestic violence relationship, get out. Run! It’s not worth it,” Thompson said. “I just lost my sister and nephew to domestic violence.”

Gun Violence and the Investigation

Authorities revealed that while Simmons had legally purchased the firearm used in the killings in 2021, his firearms ID had been revoked for undisclosed reasons.

Bloomington Police Chief Jamal Simington expressed condolences, calling the tragedy a heartbreaking loss for the community.

“Our entire department mourns because of the unfortunate loss of life in our community. Life is so precious, and we will remain anchored in justice,” Simington said.

The McLean County Coroner’s Office and Bloomington Police Department continue to investigate. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Kevin Raisbeck at (309) 434-2593 or kraisbeck@cityblm.org.
