Award season is officially back!

Black girl magic is embraced in the music industry!

The 2018 Billboard Women in Music awards was held last night at Pier 36 in New York City.  This has been the year of women empowerment.  Women from all genres of music, like Kacey Musgraves, SZA, Hayley Kiyoko, Cyndi Lauper, Janelle Monáe, and Ariana Grande came out to not just celebrate their own accomplishments, but to celebrate each other as women.

The  multi talented songstress, Janelle Monae shared a whole sermon as she accepted the Trailblazer Award at the 2018 Billboard Women In Music event. “It is such an honor to be in this room right now,” she began. “To be in this room with so many cool-ass women.” “I’ve discovered, the most difficult trail to blaze is the one that takes us inside of who we are individually and as a whole,” Monae said. “Being a trailblazer is about diving into spaces unseen and undiscovered, which can be very exciting and frightening at the same time. For me, that meant uncovering aspects of who I am in order to create spaces for others.”

Anderson Paak introduced Grammy-nominated songstress SZA to accept her Rulebreaker Award.  The New Jersey native has had continued success  of her Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling album, CTRL, while also being featured with other chart-topping artists including Cardi B and Kendrick Lamar.  She found out several hours before the event that she earned her very first Golden Globe nomination for their collaborative single, “All The Stars,” which appeared on the Black Panther soundtrack.

Congrats to everyone!
