Television icon Oprah Winfrey was recently hospitalized due to severe stomach complications, her best friend Gayle King revealed.
In a candid admission on Tuesday, June 11, Gayle disclosed that Oprah’s condition left her excreting from “both ends,” hoping that Oprah would not be upset by the revelation, reports Daily Mail.
Gayle was meeting with author David Wroblewski, whose latest book, “Familiaris,” was chosen by Oprah for her book club.
Usually, Oprah herself announces her book club selections, but her illness prevented her from doing so this time.
“She had some kind of stomach thing where – stomach flu stuff was coming out of both ends. I won’t get too graphic,” Gayle explained. “But needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydrated, and she had an IV, so it was a very serious thing,” she continued. After detailing the reason for Oprah’s absence, Gayle added, “I hope she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”
This health scare follows Oprah’s public admission five months ago about using weight loss drugs similar to Ozempic.
Amid growing rumors last year, Oprah acknowledged that she had started taking weight loss pills, having previously believed that achieving her desired body shape was solely a matter of willpower.
During an interview with People, Oprah said her size:
“…occupied five decades of space in my brain, yo-yo-ing and feeling like why can’t I just conquer this thing, believing willpower was my failing.”
Ozempic, a diabetes drug that has gained popularity in Hollywood for weight loss, played a significant role in Oprah’s journey.
As Oprah recovers from her recent hospitalization, her fans and friends hope for her speedy recovery and continued health.
