Cardi B Named Billboard’s ‘Woman of the Year’

Cardi B is in high spirits after Billboard announced the New York rapper as their Woman of the Year.

Cardi hopped on social media to react to the news.

“For you crybabies who are like, ‘but she only got one song’, yeah I got that song, bitch,” she said in a video message posted to Instagram.

“The one that sold the most, the one that streamed the most, the one that had Republicans crying on Fox News about it, the one that’s about to be six times platinum in three months, the one that had your grandma popping her p*ssy on TikTok. Yeah, bitch,” she continued.

But Billboard’s reason may not just be about Cardi’s chart success. She has been one of the most vocal artists in 2020 when it came to social injustice and politics.

“And, on top of that, for over a year, I’ve been influencing and using my platform for y’all to vote and not just when Joe Biden was going against Trump. I been informing y’all about y’all senators. I been informing y’all about district, midterm elections, using my own money to meet up with these candidates. Bernie [Sanders], flying out tired after shows, yeah that’s me, bitch. Y’all was crying like, ‘you don’t represent us’. Yes I do, I represent America.”

Billboard announced the news via its social media, but things will not be official until Billboard’s Women in Music event on Dec. 10.

The 15th annual event will go virtual this year due to the coronavirus pandemic and will stream live on their platform starting at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Teyana Taylor will host the event.
