British-Nigerian rapper Nicki Knightz kicks off 2021 by dropping the visuals for “1964 (Howlett Drive the third release from her most recent EP ‘For The Uninformed.’
The Saul Ali-directed offering depicts the story of Nicki’s Mother, a woman from Norwich who, after falling pregnant, found herself living in deepest Hackney — a stark contrast to Norwich’s peaceful plains.
“The video juxtaposes scenes of Nicki recording the track, and having to recall them visiting Norwich, with its canals and parks, a simpler life where survival is not so hard to maintain. She then smacks back to the grim reality of how her Mother lost her financial independence and became despondent on the block,” the press release states.
‘For The Uninformed,’ sees Nicki delve deep into the struggles she continues to face being a biracial woman of color and makes sure to illustrate both sides of her lineage. Nicki is the daughter of a white-British mother and a Nigerian father.
In February of last year, the rapper released “Blacker The Berry”, which pays homage to her Nigerian roots. In the video, which is a nod to Nicki’s father, Top Boy actor Alessandro Babalola plays the hardworking father figure.
