A 35-year-old Long Island mother is facing felony assault charges after allegedly attacking her daughter’s classmate with a Stanley Cup water bottle during an altercation at Brentwood High School.
According to ABC7, Toni Monroe, 35, had gone to the school around 11 a.m. for a scheduled meeting with administrators over complaints that her 15-year-old daughter was being bullied during summer school by 14-year-old Madison Evans.
Witnesses say that when Monroe arrived, she encountered the two teens in the middle of an argument that quickly escalated into a fight.
Video footage shows Monroe instructing her daughter to hand her the Stanley Cup, which she then allegedly used to repeatedly strike Evans in the head. Evans later described the terrifying moment: “Her mom just came in and started beating me with the cup. I took my head because I saw blood dripping. I took my head and I saw blood all over my hands.”
Evans was rushed to the hospital and required 17 stitches across her forehead. Her family expressed outrage and fear over the assault.
“She could’ve died. Anything could’ve happened to her, more than just being hit over the head and having 17 stitches,” said Evans’ guardian, Shameakca Forney.
Monroe was arrested and charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
At her arraignment, her attorney argued that Monroe’s actions were provoked by ongoing bullying against her daughter, insisting she was at the school only to address the matter with staff.
The court released Monroe on house arrest and issued an order requiring her to stay away from Evans.
