U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett urged Texas voters to focus on economic pressures facing working families as she campaigned ahead of the state’s upcoming Democratic Senate primary on March 3, 2026.
Speaking at the Missouri City Visitors Center, Crockett spoke forcefully about rising living costs, particularly health care premiums, telling supporters that many Americans are being forced into impossible financial choices.
“People right now are trying to decide whether they’re going to put food on their table, whether they’re going to pay their health care, or whether they can pay rent,” Crockett said. “The reality is that you should be able to do it all. We don’t live in a third world country. We’re not broke — this is about our priorities.”

She argued that federal policy decisions have worsened costs for ordinary Americans, pointing to cuts to major safety-net programs.
“They decided to cut one trillion dollars out of our health care ecosystem,” Crockett told the crowd. “That is why your premiums went up.”
The remarks come as Crockett seeks the Democratic nomination in a competitive Texas Senate primary race. She is facing challengers including state Rep. James Talarico and candidate Ahmad R. Hassan.

Recent early polling in the race suggests a tight contest, with surveys indicating Crockett holding a narrow lead among likely Democratic primary voters, while a significant share remains undecided — reflecting a volatile electorate ahead of voting. Analysts say turnout among urban voters and young Democrats could be decisive in the final outcome.
During her remarks, Crockett stated that her work in Washington is driven by everyday concerns raised by constituents.
“I want to be clear about something,” she said. “I am a real one. The work that I do in D.C. is on behalf of each and every one of you — even if we have never met.”
The primary is expected to draw close attention nationally as Democrats test messaging around affordability, health care, and economic inequality in a major battleground state.
