A Detroit mother says what began as a routine hair appointment for her daughter turned into a frightening confrontation involving scissors and a firearm, prompting her to file a police report and warn others about the incident.
Robin Phillips said she visited a hairdresser’s home in Detroit with her daughter expecting to pay a discounted price that had been advertised by the stylist. Instead, she said the situation escalated after the stylist demanded a higher payment.
“I’m just like distraught right now because she did all of this for what, when we could have just simply handled it like adults,” Phillips said after the encounter.

Price Dispute Escalates
Phillips said she ultimately agreed to pay the higher price, hoping to resolve the disagreement. However, she claims the situation quickly became threatening.
According to Phillips, the hairdresser was already holding scissors during the dispute and began waving them around.
“She had the scissors in her hands,” Phillips said. “She said, ‘If you don’t pay me, then I’m going to cut your daughter’s hair.’ She kept waving the scissors around, and I was just trying to calm her down.”
Phillips said she tried to de-escalate the situation while ensuring her daughter remained safe.
Alleged Gun Threat
The confrontation intensified moments later when the stylist allegedly ran upstairs and returned with what Phillips described as an AR-style rifle.
“She said, ‘I will shoot you,’” Phillips recalled. “She said, ‘I will bury you over $10.’”
Fearing for their safety, Phillips said she and the others with her pushed past the stylist and quickly left the home.
“We had to get out of there,” she said.
Police Investigation
Phillips later went to a local police precinct and filed a report with the Detroit Police Department.
Authorities confirmed the hairdresser accused of threatening the customer was taken into custody as the case moved forward.
Phillips said she chose to speak publicly about the incident to warn others.
“I want people to know what happened to me,” she said, “in hopes it won’t happen to someone else.”
Safety Concerns Raised
The incident has sparked discussion locally about safety when visiting private residences for services arranged online or through social media.
Phillips said the experience left her shaken but grateful that she and her daughter were able to leave the situation without physical harm.
For her, the encounter still feels difficult to process.
“All of this over $10,” she said. “It didn’t have to be like that.”
