A 3-year-old boy from Dothan, Alabama, made an unsupervised trip from his daycare to a nearby Walmart this week, raising serious concerns about the daycare’s safety protocols.
Jasmine Najee, the boy’s mother, shared her shock after her son, Sir Paxton, left Kiddie Care Learning Center unnoticed and wandered into the Walmart.
The incident occurred last Tuesday when Sir Paxton asked to use the restroom, and daycare staff reportedly instructed him to go alone.
Rather than returning to the classroom, Sir Paxton managed to exit the facility and cross the street to Walmart.
He roamed the store for around 20 to 25 minutes before a family friend, who works at the store, recognized him.
Security footage captured Sir Paxton leaving the daycare at 4:07 p.m., and authorities were alerted at 4:30 p.m.
He was found holding Hot Wheels and snacks, preparing to check out when the employee stopped him. Najee expressed her frustration, noting that she wasn’t informed about the incident until nearly 5 p.m.
She added:
“We could be grieving his death,” expressing her relief that her son was unharmed.
Kiddie Care Learning Center owner, Kishia Saffold, issued a public apology and took full responsibility for the daycare’s failure to ensure the child’s safety.
She assured parents that new security measures would be put in place to prevent such incidents from happening again.
