Angel Reese is gearing up for her second WNBA season, and while she’s focused on improving her game, she’s also making a playful recruiting pitch to bring a former Chicago Sky star back home.
Reese recently took to social media to recruit three-time All-Star and 2021 WNBA Finals MVP Kahleah Copper to return to the Sky.
Copper, who was traded to the Phoenix Mercury in February 2024, spent most of her WNBA career in Chicago and helped lead the franchise to its first championship.
“Can’t wait to talk [expletive] to my grandma until she come back home
@kahleahcopper,” Reese tweeted, responding to Copper’s comments about her on DraftKings’ Good Follow show.
Copper affectionately referred to Reese as “grandbaby” during the interview, sparking Reese’s lighthearted social media push.
A New-Look Chicago Sky
If Copper were to return, she’d be joining a significantly revamped Sky roster. The team underwent major changes in the offseason, bringing in new head coach Tyler Marsh after parting ways with Teresa Weatherspoon.
Chicago also made key acquisitions, including two-time All-Star guard Ariel Atkins, veteran guard Rebecca Allen, point guard Courtney Vandersloot, and guard Kia Nurse.
Additionally, the Sky sent guard Dana Evans to the Las Vegas Aces in exchange for the No. 16 and 22 overall picks in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Reese’s Rise and Championship Pedigree
Reese is coming off a successful stint in the Unrivaled basketball league, where she won the inaugural championship with Rose BC and was named Defensive Player of the Year.
She also earned second-team All-Unrivaled honors, showcasing her development heading into Year 2 in the WNBA.
Meanwhile, one of Chicago’s biggest additions in 2024, No. 3 overall draft pick Kamilla Cardoso, showed promise in her rookie season, averaging 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.
The 6-foot-7 center is expected to play a key role in the Sky’s future.
