Rumor has it that St. Louis rapper Nelly and Long Island R&B singer Ashanti have reignited their romance after pictures have surfaced showing them both wearing the same Cuban link chain.
The couple was originally an item in 2003 and called it quits 10 years later. Since then, both went their separate ways until they both appeared in a 2021 Verzuz battle between Queens rapper Ja Rule and Bronx artist Fat Joe.
On a Nelly and Ashanti fan page bearing the handle @fanmode2022, an image was posted of the couple in matching necklaces. Ashanti’s necklace was tucked underneath two silver chains draped atop while Nelly wore his chain over a black collared polo shirt.
Fans were quick to notice that the chains looked similar and began spilling their reactions in the comment section.
“I’m so here for this!!!” one fan wrote.
“Who besides me have been waiting for this reconciliation?? Ashanti was the one that got away!” another gushed.
“Happy for them if its true! Now Nelly do the right thing and Marry her!!!” one wrote.
“Chile soulmates are a thing,” wrote another.
Neither of the artists – who are both Grammy Award winners – have come out to speak about the speculation, although they have been seen out together in recent months.
Earlier this month, the pair were seen together at a Tennessee club after performing at a concert. And last December, they took the stage to perform at a Christmas concert in Arizona.
In 2015, Ashanti revealed why the on-again-off-again couple went their separate ways during an episode of The Meredith Vieira Show stating that she was “betrayed” by the star.
And during a 2021 Instagram Live after her Verzuz appearance in which he surprisingly took the stage, she opened up stating that “I haven’t seen him or spoken to him, since we broke up so I didn’t know what to expect.”
And in another Instagram video, she said that “my relationship status is definitely complicated.”
Meanwhile, Nelly has been linked to Shantel Jackson (the ex-girlfriend of former boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.) for six years until they parted ways in 2021.
