The second season of Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton” series is less than two months away, and the new additions to the cast have already set tongues wagging.
Simone Ashley is joining the “Bridgerton” cast as Kate, Anthony Bridgerton’s new love interest. The pair’s storyline will be the leading romance in the second season, taking over from Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor.
“Kate is a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools—Anthony Bridgerton very much included,” Netflix tweeted.
Page announced shortly after the first season wrapped that he would not be returning to the show.
Fans will know Ashley from her role as Olivia Hanan on Netflix’s “Sex Education.” Charithra Chandran joins the series as Kate’s younger sister, Edwina Sharma, while Shelly Conn will join as their mother.
Netflix announced that season two will premiere on March 25, 2022.
Needless to say, we’re all pretty excited.
Read the official season 2 description below:
“Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) Sharma arrive from India. When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. Across Grosvenor Square, the Featheringtons must welcome the newest heir to their estate while Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) continues to navigate the ton whilst keeping her deepest secret from the people closest to her.”
The show is based on Julia Quinn’s novels, set in the cutthroat competitive world of Regency-era London. The first season became the most-watched series on Netflix at the time of its premiere and is still the second most-watched series on the platform.
