The trailer for “Our Kind of People,” starring Yaya DaCosta, has been unleashed.

And it is juicy.

According to Deadline, “Our Kind of People follows strong-willed single mom Angela Vaughn (DaCosta) as she sets out to reclaim her family’s name and make an impact with her revolutionary haircare line that highlights the innate, natural beauty of Black women. But she soon discovers a dark secret about her mother’s past that will turn her world upside-down and shake up this community forever.”

The series is inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s book “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class.” Graham is one of the nation’s most notable spokesmen on race and class. For the book, he spent six years interviewing the wealthiest Black families in America.

Lee Daniels executive produces the FOX series, which also stars Morris Chestnut, Nadine Ellis, and Joe Morton.

Earlier this year, fans shed a tear as they bid farewell to DaCosta’s ER nurse April Sexton in NBC‘s “Chicago Med” after six seasons.

“My exit from Chicago Med and the arrival of this show happened really simultaneously. There isn’t much to say about it. There was a window opening and a question mark as to whether I should stay or go,” said DaCosta per Deadline. “And in that window, I fell in love with Our Kind of People and I jumped at the opportunity to work with Lee Daniels again. I first worked with him years ago on The Butler.”

She continued, “The show is a dream in so many ways and it’s saucy and so much fun! And there’s so much about my character that I felt was really important to bring to the forefront of our discussions. We’re just playing with these serious themes and we’re making them fun.”
