Driven by a passion for natural haircare, Dean founded Hollywood Hair Bar to offer products crafted from natural ingredients, aiming to help people achieve healthy hair growth.
Her journey to success wasn’t easy, as she revealed on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast hosted by Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings.
Dean dedicated a decade to mastering online marketing before officially launching her business.
She strategically drove traffic to Hollywood Hair Bar’s website, leveraging data-driven Facebook advertisements to reach her target audience effectively.
Collaborating with a marketing agency proved transformative for Dean’s business. Within a month of partnering with the agency, Hollywood Hair Bar’s revenue skyrocketed from $50,000 to a staggering $1 million. Dean’s company consistently achieved $2 million in monthly revenue for two years, leading to a cumulative revenue of over $45 million to date.
Remarkably, Dean accomplished this feat without relying on bank loans or external funding. Her refusal to conform to conventional wisdom—of using other people’s money to make money—speaks volumes. Instead, she blazed her trail, demonstrating that Black women can achieve extraordinary success independently.
“To be able to do something like that with no bank loan — I did most of it without even a credit card…That is not heard of as a Black woman,” said Dean on the podcast. “And everyone said, ‘Why didn’t you take money? You’re supposed to use other people’s money to make money.’ And I’m like, you know why? Because I wanted to show the next little young Black girl that she could do it with nobody’s money. That’s why.”
