The founder of The Honey Pot Company faced racist backlash after her Target ad aired on television last week — but during a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, she says the backlash has only strengthened her brand.
A small group of caucasian viewers were outraged by the ad, which promoted the feminine hygiene products for women, and headed to Trust Pilot, where they posted a barrage of racist reviews.
âMy reasoning for saying that is because of the disparities that are happening in the venture capital world,â Beatrice Dixon said on the show, which aired Thursday. âWe get less than 1% of funding — we get 0.06% of funding. Iâm one of only 50 black women that have raised more than a million dollars. Think about that. If we are not selling businesses, we are not scaling businesses, Black wealth can literally die. Thatâs the reason why we have to be successful.â
âA lot has happened,â she continued. âWeâve been inundated with emails, weâve been inundated with social media posts, bad reviews but not on product. [White people] said that I was racistâand guess what? Thatâs their opinion. I know Iâm not racist. They called for their people not to buy [Honey Pot] and support it. We didnât even really have to say much because our beloved customers formed like Voltron and just got in there. Not only did they reverse like a one-and-a-half, two-and-a-half star on Trustpilot, but it went to like 4.9 stars. The shelves have just been ravished. Everythingâs poppinâ online and everywhere else.â
Earlier this week, Dixon revealed that since the racist trolls targeted her brand, sales have doubled.
