Insecure creator Issa Rae is set to executive produce and a series based on Los Angeles in 1990s. According to Deadline, the project will center on an African-American family dealing with the events of the time. The Turner House author Angela Flournoy, will write and executive produce the show
“I’m so thrilled to be working with Angela,” Rae told Deadline. “I was a huge fan of The Turner House, and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO,” she spoke of the NAACP Image Award nominee who was also shortlisted for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize.
The pending drama will center on the marriage of Sheryl and Jackson. Sheryl being an “envelope bounds-pushing real estate agent” and Jackson who is an LAPD anti-gang task force recruit, who’s job comes with its own conflicts.
At present, the project is untitled, and we do not have a premiere date. Nevertheless, everything that Issa touches turns to cold, so we cannot wait to see the fruits of this new collaboration!
