Singer and songstress Jazmine Sullivan has just announced that she lost her mother.
On Saturday, the 36-year-old Philadelphia star shared with her two million followers on Instagram that her mother Pamela died after a four-year battle with breast cancer. She was 64.
“I don’t have the words yet mommy. So for now I’ll say thank you thank you thank you. Rest now butterfly. 10/26/58- 07/22/23,” Sullivan wrote in the caption with an old photo of her mother.
Shortly after making the announcement, scores of fans and supporters took to the comments to send condolences for her loss.
“I know she was so proud of you. Sending you love and wishing her eternal peace,” Issa Rae commented.
“A picture is truly worth 1000 words May she RIP and God hold Jazmin close,” Sheryl Lee Ralph wrote.
Tina Lawson also commented: “Sending you love.”
“I am so sorry. But, it is a wonderful thing for a mother to know she has a daughter who loves her so much. Praying for you and your heart,” Uzo Aduba added.
On Monday, Missy Elliott took to Twitter to share her condolences as well.
“No parent want to ever send their child off and no child that’s close to their parents want to be without them,” Missy tweeted. “They feel lost. so I send up many prayers for @jsullivanmusic & anyone else who have been through this I pray for STRENGTH for each of you. rest easy Ms Pam.”
In 2021, Sullivan’s mother joined her onstage at the BET Awards while she accepted her win for album of the year.
“My mom was my biggest supporter since I was a child,” she told Shondaland. “She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, so this was a full-circle moment of finally getting the payoff that we worked hard for. Not only that, but her being in a healthy state and being able to experience it with me. It was really beautiful and let her know that I love her and appreciate her. I wouldn’t even have been here without her.”
The Lions, Tigers & Bears star further added that her mother was “super-involved” in her career and had “excellent taste” in helping her pick out music to create.
In 2020, Sullivan shared that Pamela was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, which flipped her family’s world “upside down.”
“For anyone who’s sent me messages asking [about] how she’s doing.. We’re doing great!” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “Still in the fight but not where we used to be. All cancers are a journey but I feel in my heart we’re on the other side!”
Shine My Crown is sending light, love and healing to the Sullivan family during this difficult time.
