R. Kelly is currently behind bars awaiting trial for several horrendous crimes, including alleged offensive against underage girls — but r&b singer K. Michelle, who has often leant her voice to support the disgraced star, took to Instagram to share that she is missing her former mentor.
The reality television star has been working on a country music album. She implies that she feels lost without Kelly.
“I swear if Rob was here so many of my musical questions would be answered. If you have a mentor u need to learn as much musically as possible, but I took so days of learning for granted never knowing this would happen to him,” K. Michelle tweeted early Wednesday morning.
“I’m trying to create the most genuine Last R&B record and I really need to play it for him but u can’t. It hurts. I have to be confident In my skills and do this alone,” she continued. “Once again i’m not defending single soul. Wrong is wrong but within separating the man from the music, musically I’ve trusted him my whole career and now it’s time to trust my own self.”
The debate for separating the man from the music has been an ongoing argument for Kelly supporters. But for many, it’s near impossible to do so, knowing that his alleged illegal activities may have inspired his explicit song lyrics.
Kelly, who is being held at Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center, faces criminal charges across multiple jurisdictions, including federal indictments in Illinois and New York alleging racketeering, sexual exploitation of children and child pornography. The singer also faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Cook County and soliciting a minor and prostitution in Minnesota.
“No one will ever understand how heavy it is watching the person who saved your life be crucified in front of the world for their sickness,” K. Michelle concluded.
