Issa Rae and La La Anthony have teamed up to bring us a new horror-comedy titled “Juju.”

According to Deadline, the upcoming horror comedy for Universal Pictures will be based on an original concept by Angelica Nwandu, founder of The Shade Room and a Sundance fellow, who will write the script.

Rae will be producing the comedy with longtime partner Deniese Davis, and SVP of development for HooRae Productions Sara Rastogi will be overseeing the project. Erik Baiers, Universal’s Senior EVP Production, will oversee the project on behalf of the studio.

The news comes days after it was announced that Rae signed up to executive produce an adaptation of the popular podcast “Nice White Parents.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO landed the rights to the podcast in “a competitive bidding war,” beating out Netflix and the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions.

“Nice White Parents” debuted in July, and HBO describes it as a “satirical look at the conflict and comedy that arise when highly resourced white parents, who claim to have the best intentions, wield their influence over generations of Black and brown students within the New York public school system.”

Rae first became a household name when she released her popular YouTube web series Awkward Black Girl. The series was eventually flipped for HBO television series “Insecure, which focuses on the experiences of awkward Black girl, Issa, and her life in California.

Rae has received two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy, in 2017 and 2018.
