Former Vice President Kamala Harris hinted at a possible presidential bid in 2028, sparking speculation about her political comeback during a live interview with journalist Kara Swisher last week.

When Swisher asked whether she planned to run for president, Harris shrugged and smiled before responding, “Maybe. Maybe not,” drawing cheers and laughter from the audience. The former vice president, who recently ruled out a 2026 run for California governor, left the door open for a return to national politics four years from now.

Pressed on what policies she would prioritize if elected, Harris demurred. “It’s much too early to have that conversation, Kara,” she said, before adding a jab at the Trump administration. “I literally yesterday would not have known that this Department of Justice would have indicted the New York Attorney General, right?”

Still, Harris reflected on her time in the Biden administration, acknowledging that she might have approached some priorities differently. “I really do think we should have done the families piece of Build Back Better before we did the infrastructure and the CHIPS Act,” she said, referring to President Biden’s ambitious but ultimately scaled-back domestic agenda.

The interview also touched on Harris’s short-lived 2024 presidential campaign, which she chronicles in her new memoir107 Days. Harris described the whirlwind race against then-President Donald Trump as an uphill climb. “I couldn’t do enough,” she admitted. “I wanted people to know not just who I am as a person, but what I’ve done.”

Listing her past roles—U.S. senator from California, state attorney general, and San Francisco district attorney—Harris smiled as Swisher remarked, “That’s a decent résumé.”

“Well,” Harris replied, to applause from the audience, “some people have actually said I was the most qualified candidate ever to run for president. I’m just speaking fact.”

Whether Harris makes another bid for the White House remains to be seen. But her comments suggest she’s not done with politics—and she’s more than ready to remind voters of her credentials.
