Keke Palmer made headlines this week when she revealed on the Today show that she has no intention of living with a romantic partner. Even if marriage comes into the picture.

While promoting her upcoming Peacock series, The ’Burbs, Palmer got candid about her views on relationships and boundaries. “I like my alone time,” she said, matter-of-factly. “That’s real.” At 32, and a mother to a two-year-old, Leodis, with ex Darius Jackson, Keke explained that motherhood sharpened her clarity about what she wants and what she won’t compromise. Personal space, she said, is vital.

Keke cited Whoopi Goldberg as inspiration, recalling how the veteran comedian once joked about wanting love without cohabitation. “I feel like Whoopi Goldberg said it best once,” Palmer said. “She was like, ‘I don’t want nobody in my house.’ And I feel that.”

For Keke, love doesn’t have to mean shared walls or shared bathrooms.

The actress and singer offered a vision for a modern partnership that keeps romance alive without crowding. Think separate rooms, guest houses, or even living “around the corner” from each other. “You’re just gonna live around the corner?” the host asked. Palmer replied, “Around the corner would be great… You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I’m over there, and he’s over there. At best, separate rooms.” She even joked about the importance of bathroom independence. “But think about how fun it would be to be like, ‘I’m going over to my man’s house.’ Over there, hi husband!” she said, laughing.

Keke Palmer is redefining what it means to be in a relationship.

Fans can see Keke Palmer in action in The ’Burbs, which premieres February 8 on Peacock, and she’s set to hit the big screen in I Love Boosters, opening May 22.
