Acting legends Lynn Whitfield and Tony Award-winner Renée Elise Goldsberry joined Sherri Shepherd for a lively conversation on SherriShowTV, where they opened up about their new independent film Albany Road, their long-standing careers, and some unexpected moments that had everyone laughing.
Whitfield, known for iconic roles in Eve’s Bayou, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, and The Chi, was met with praise from Shepherd, who shared her admiration for Whitfield’s enduring career.
“You never stop working. Something to aspire to, yes?” Shepherd remarked, applauding Whitfield’s versatility.
Goldsberry, who made waves with her Tony Award-winning performance in Hamilton, discussed her deep admiration for Whitfield.
“Actresses of her caliber know how to show up and disarm people,” said Goldsberry, revealing the ease with which the pair formed chemistry on set. Whitfield humorously recalled meeting Goldsberry for the first time, saying, “She just walked in the room and said, ‘Girl, do you know who you’re gonna be kissing in this movie?’”
Shepherd also dug into Goldsberry’s early career, recounting the actress’s story of nearly missing out on her Hamilton audition.
“My second child came home, and my family was complete, and I honestly didn’t believe they’d give me the job,” Goldsberry shared. “Our biggest enemy is ourselves. We say no to ourselves.”
The conversation was both heartfelt and light-hearted as the duo reflected on their individual journeys, with Goldsberry acknowledging that had she passed up the audition, her life would have been “something wonderful, but not this.”
Shepherd, too, expressed her gratitude for Goldsberry’s decision, saying, “I’m so glad that you went because had you not, I don’t know what my life would be.”
Together, the two stars shared not only their careers but moments of humor and humility, making their time on the Sherri Shepherd Show one to remember.
