Renée Elise Goldsberry’s career is a masterclass in versatility, spanning soap operas, Broadway, television, and music.
Best known for her Tony and Grammy-winning portrayal of Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, Goldsberry’s journey is a testament to talent, resilience, and giving back.
From Llanview to Broadway
Goldsberry’s acting journey began with her role as a lawyer on One Life to Live, a childhood favorite soap opera she later starred in.
“It was the greatest acting class I’ve ever had in my life,” she shared with First For Women. The soap world not only honed her craft but also allowed her to build lifelong friendships.
Before her breakout in Hamilton, Goldsberry lit up Broadway with performances in The Lion King and The Color Purple.
Reflecting on her diverse career, she said, “I’ve been in love with telling stories since I was about 8 years old. It’s been a lovely career, and I just keep showing up gratefully whenever it seems like the right fit.”
A Decade of Hamilton
When Hamilton came along, Goldsberry didn’t anticipate how profoundly it would change her life.
“It was a dream come true,” she said. Now approaching its 10-year anniversary, the groundbreaking musical remains a cultural phenomenon.
Giving Back to the Community
Outside of her performing career, Goldsberry is deeply committed to philanthropy.
This holiday season, she partnered with Wells Fargo at 90 Sands, a Brooklyn housing development for low-income and formerly homeless residents. Together, they distributed 1,000 bags of groceries and holiday gifts.
“It’s truly a labor of love, if it is a labor at all. It’s really special,” she said.
Juggling Career and Family
As a busy working mom, Goldsberry credits her family for their support.
“It takes a village,” she said. Despite the demands of Broadway, television, and concerts, she prioritizes her children and embraces the balance with grace.

Goldsberry is currently starring in the limited run of All In: Comedy About Love and working on a new album.
