It was a bumpy Valentine’s Day for singer Tyrese after he learned that he was being dropped from his music label, Voltron Recordz. To add insult to injury, the international day of love is the same day his mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson, died after a tumultuous fight with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
In a lengthy Instagram post he uploaded Tuesday, the Fast and Furious actor showed his 16 million followers an image of his termination contract with a heart emoji emblazoned on it.
“My label just dropped me on the same day my mother passed,” he wrote on the picture with a broken heart emoji.
“I really thought I would be doing much better today all week I feel like I was preparing myself to mentally emotionally and psychologically get through this very tragic day for me and my family,” he wrote in the caption. “Today my mother transitioned of all days on Valentine’s Day last year 2022…. Same year my father died REGGIE ANDREWS LOCKE SAINTS Father figure…”
He further added it was the same day he married his ex-wife, Samantha Lee Gibson, who filed for divorce from the singer in 2020 after claiming he had locked her out of the house.
“Still to this day I have no clue as to why she filed for divorce.. Just so happened to be the same day that I just got dropped from my label….Imagine that?” he questioned.
The six-time Grammy-nominated artist ended the caption by quoting Bible verse Psalm 6:2-10, which states, “Have mercy on me, LORD, for I am faint; heal me, LORD, for my bones are in agony.”
“Pray for me, please,” he ended the caption.
Fans, friends and supporters flooded his comments to offer support and advice to the distraught Lately star.
“Sometimes it’s better to keep things private,” one fan wrote. “I think in this world of chaos you need to come off social media. Ground yourself and just take a time out. Well in mind and spirit is worth so much more than these posts.”
“Sending you so much love. Thank you for sharing and being so vulnerable, raw and real. Praying for you and your family,” wrote actress Rosario Dawson.
“Rejection is the Lord’s redirection… if you’re a man of God, He’s refining you and setting you apart. That label isn’t for you any longer. It’s time to surrender and solutions yourself with godly people. Ask Him to reveal His will for your life in this season and watch Him move. Pruning doesn’t feel great but the results are beyond what you could ask for,” another supporter chimed in.
Tyrese has been vocal in the past about former traumatic experiences he faced after losing loved ones. Last year April, he wrote in a post that he needed healing after losing so many people close to him, including the late actor Paul Walker, late director John Singleton and his mother.
