Everyone’s favorite auntie Ms. Patti Labelle is ready to jump back into the dating pool again.
During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the 78-year-old dished about being open to love when the show’s host asked her if she would consider it.
“Well sorta, kinda,” she said. “How old am I? 78?”
Labelle was married to educator Armstead Edwards for over three decades before they finalized their divorce in 2003.
“I was married for 32 years to a wonderful man, and we’re still friends, good friends,” the Philadelphia singer said. “And so I think in life I need to find happiness for myself, other than what I had back in the day with him, which was wonderful. But I’m too good to be solo.”
Hudson then asked if she would be willing to try dating apps.
“What’s that?” LaBelle replied as the audience erupted in laughter. “OK, what are dating apps?”
Hudson went on to explain how they worked, but Labelle didn’t seem convinced.
“Oh, that stuff,” she said. “I’ve seen that commercial.”
The If Only You Knew singer hinted that there may already have a potential suitor, but would not provide any details.
“I do have a nice person in mind. I really do, but that’s my personal business.”
News that LaBelle is considering dating again is an about-face from comments she made in a 2021 People interview when she said that she was not looking to date anyone and was just fine as a single woman.
“I’m just living my life like it’s platinum,” she said at the time. “Thank God I have a lot of people who care for me. … I live alone with my dog, Mr. Cuddles, and I’m looking for love from everybody. I am.”
Labelle is the mother to five children: Zuri Kye Edwards, Stayce Holte, William Holte, Dodd Stocker-Edwards and Stanley Stocker-Edwards.
