Remy Ma has announced the launch of Chrome 23, an all-women battle rap league.
According to Vibe, Chrome 23‘s first event will be taking place on Feb. 12. B.A.R.R.S, Ms. Hustle, and Jaz the Rapper will all be battling on the night.
“I just want all the women that have ever put their blood sweat and tears into this, [and] that’s been doing this for years to get a chance to really make some decent money,” Remy told OTFMZ Battle Rap Media.
“Anyone that has anything negative to say or that feels like I’m trying to take somebody’s place or feels like I’m trying to step on somebody’s toes, y’all are more than welcome to donate to the cause,” she said. “It’s costing me hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it out of my pocket and out of the favors that I’m calling in, so you’re welcome to come in and assist. I’m not doing this because of me. I’m not trying to be cocky or nothing. I’m rich, I really am.”
Remy Ma has always championed unity amongst her female rap peers. She has frequently spoken out about women rappers being pit against each other. The rap league is part of her ongoing mission to bring dope female rappers together.
Recently in an interview, she was asked why she doesn’t have more female rap collabs under her belt.
“‘Cause my pen really go,” she said boldly. “They know. Nobody don’t play with me. Even guys. People call me and they’re like, ‘You need to do some features.’ No girl wants to be on a song with me. Especially if she up! She don’t want Remy Ma on a song. They know what’s gon’ happen and the same thing goes for guys. A guy don’t wanna call me to get on a song ’cause he knows what’s gonna happen. So, it’s cool. I’m alright with it.”
And that energy is exactly why Chrome 23 is going to be a smash.
Remy Ma also divulged that men also have a place in her new venture… every now and again.
“Every dude that I’ve spoken to has been one hundred and fifty percent like yeah, ‘They should be getting what we’re getting,” she said. “It’s a female league but, ya know…the guys could come over. We’ll let them come over sometimes.”
