Vice President Kamala Harris is taking on an increasingly prominent role in President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, according to campaign co-chair and former Louisiana Representative Cedric Richmond. Speaking on MSNBC’s The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart, Richmond emphasized Harris’s importance to the campaign. “She has been a valued partner since day one,” he said. “I won’t get into whether she’s been covered fairly by the press, but she is incredibly intelligent and a valuable partner.”

Richmond also highlighted Harris’s unwavering support for President Biden, both publicly and privately. His comments come amidst calls from some Democratic lawmakers for President Biden to withdraw from the race following a debate performance that reignited concerns about his age, now 81.

Despite speculation about potential replacements, such as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom, Richmond affirmed their support for Biden. “Leaders are rallying around this president and vice president because they understand what’s at stake and what they have accomplished,” he stated.

In a primetime ABC interview on Friday, President Biden reiterated his commitment to the race, asserting that he’s in “good shape” and has no intention of dropping out of the race.

And on MSNBC’s Morning Joe,” he emphasized that he has a “pretty good political instinct and here’s the deal, it’s not going to happen here. This time around, the American public is not going to move away from me as the average voter.”

He continued: “I want to make sure I was right, that the average voter out there wanted Joe Biden and I’m confident they do. The bottom line here is that we are not going anywhere. I am not going anywhere. I would not be running if I didn’t believe I am the best candidate to beat Donald Trump in 2024.”
