Stranded American Woman Shares How 30th Birthday Trip to Dubai Turned Into ‘Very Strange Out-of-Body Experience’

by Gee NY

What was meant to be a milestone celebration abroad has turned into a tense waiting game for one American woman who says she is now stranded in Dubai amid escalating regional conflict.

In a viral video shared by @hiphopb.c0m, the woman recounts traveling to Dubai to celebrate her 30th birthday with a close friend before tensions intensified.

“I’m trapped in Dubai,” she begins in the clip. “I came out here to celebrate my 30th birthday with one of my good friends and everything just went left.”

‘We’ve Heard Bombs From Our Rooms’

The woman says she and her friend have been closely following developments through cable news coverage, describing the uncertainty as overwhelming.

“CNN has been our best friend,” she says, explaining that they have been monitoring updates as airspace restrictions and military exchanges unfold.

According to her account, the situation quickly felt personal and frightening.

“We’ve heard bombs from our rooms,” she says. “My friend was downstairs at the beach the first day this all happened and she actually seen a missile fly over her head.”

She adds that the experience has been particularly jarring as Americans abroad.

“We’re from the U.S., so this is very different for us,” she says, noting that their families are roughly 9,000 miles away. “They’re not letting people in and we can’t leave.”

Emotional Toll of Being Stranded

The woman describes the emotional weight of being stuck far from home during a military escalation.

“It gets really emotional when you think about your family’s 9,000 miles away,” she says. “Very, very strange out-of-body experience.”

She explains that she and her friend have tried to cope by staying inside and resting.

“We’ve kind of slept our days away to contain the tears that flow after we wake up,” she says. “Just pray for your people in Dubai. It’s a very, very tough situation to be in and I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.”

She ends the video with a bittersweet note: “Happy birthday to me at least.”

Social Media Reaction

The video has gained traction online as global tensions continue to disrupt travel across parts of the Middle East.

The post also raises broader questions about international travel during periods of instability, with viewers debating whether they would continue overseas trips amid ongoing conflict.

“Scrollers, are y’all still traveling internationally with everything going on?” the post’s caption asks.

For this traveler, what began as a celebratory getaway has become a sobering reminder of how quickly circumstances can change.
