‘The ReidOut’ is Cancelled! MSNBC Ends Joy Reid’s Show In Network Shakeup

by Gee NY

MSNBC has announced the cancellation of “The ReidOut,” the 7 p.m. program hosted by Joy Reid, as part of a significant network overhaul under new president Rebecca Kutler.

The final episode is scheduled to air this week, concluding Reid’s five-year tenure in the primetime slot.

Replacing “The ReidOut” will be a new panel show co-hosted by Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders-Townsend.

This change is part of Kutler’s broader strategy to revamp MSNBC’s lineup amid declining ratings, particularly in competition with Fox News. Reid, known for her critical commentary on former President Donald Trump, has experienced a significant drop in viewership since the 2020 election.

In addition to Reid’s departure, other prominent MSNBC anchors, including Stephanie Ruhle, have reportedly been offered pay cuts to remain with the network. Kutler, a former CNN executive, stressed the need for adaptation as MSNBC faces unique challenges with the current administration and upcoming corporate restructuring.

This programming shakeup follows recent changes to MSNBC’s weekend lineup. In January 2024, the network introduced “The Weekend,” an ensemble show hosted by Menendez, Steele, and Sanders-Townsend, airing from 8 to 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturdays and Sundays.

Joy Reid’s career at MSNBC includes hosting “AM Joy” from 2016 to 2020 before transitioning to “The ReidOut” in July 2020, where she became the network’s first Black female primetime anchor.

These developments come as MSNBC prepares for a corporate spin-off into a new publicly traded company, a move announced by NBCUniversal in November 2024. The restructuring aims to address the network’s evolving challenges and position it for future growth.
