Fans of “The View” have been concerned about Whoopi Goldberg’s absence from the talk show this week.
The beloved host has been missing from the panel for several days, prompting questions about her well-being. It’s been revealed that the “Sister Act” star tested positive for COVID-19, explaining her recent absence.
Joy Behar Addresses Whoopi’s Absence
On Thursday, July 11, Whoopi’s co-hosts greeted the audience as usual before Joy Behar addressed the situation.
“You might have noticed Whoopi is not here,” Joy said. “Whoopi has tested positive for COVID. You know, it’s going around still. So you have to be careful!”
Sunny Hostin added that Whoopi contracted the virus amid a “summer surge.”
Although Whoopi was on “The View” earlier in the week, she later appeared in a pre-taped interview with Antony Starr from “The Boys.”
Promoting Her New Book
This isn’t Whoopi’s first bout with COVID-19. The 68-year-old has contracted the virus multiple times, missing previous tapings of “The View” in early 2022, November 2022, and September 2023.
Recently, Whoopi has been busy promoting her book, Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me. Earlier this week, she appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” to discuss her autobiography, which she describes as a “love letter” to the people who raised her. The book touches on personal stories, including what she did with her mother’s ashes.
What’s Next for Whoopi?
With her current COVID diagnosis, it’s unclear when Whoopi will resume her press appearances or return to “The View.” She is expected to miss the next few episodes to prevent spreading the virus and to fully recover.
Fans are eagerly awaiting her return, hoping she’ll be back at the table with her co-stars soon!
“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. EST on ABC.
