Tyra Banks has revealed that she lost her home in the recent devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles.
The supermodel and TV icon opened up for the first time about losing her Los Angeles home to the devastating wildfires, shedding light on why she chose to keep the heartbreaking news private.
During a candid interview on the Australian breakfast show Sunrise on January 20, Tyra Banks revealed the emotional toll the loss took on her and her loved ones.
“I haven’t really talked about it,” the 51-year-old shared. “I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me. I feel that there are a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it. But I can’t sit here and not tell the truth. So, yeah, we lost our house.”
The news has surprised many, especially since the longtime host of America’s Next Top Model has frequently offered insights into her life with her fans. This time, though, Tyra opted for a more understated approach, focusing on the needs of others rather than her own.
Tyra Banks recalled the moment she found out about the tragedy. She and her partner, Louis Bélanger-Martin, were at a friend’s place in Australia when they got the heartbreaking news.
“We were celebrating and just having fun. I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but just for friends and family,” she said. “I was just making sure they were evacuating and everything.”
Upon realizing that their house was lost, she remarked that she managed to compose herself.
“I didn’t say anything to my friends. I just stayed in that moment. Then we went home and we cried. We had our moment,” she added solemnly.
Her home, a symbol of stability and cherished memories, was among the countless properties ravaged by the relentless wildfires that swept across Los Angeles, leaving behind destruction and heartbreak.
Numerous celebrities have had their residences destroyed by the wildfires in L.A., which started on Tuesday, January 7.
The America’s Next Top Model star mentioned that although the property was damaged, many of their keepsakes were with them in either Australia or New York since they were traveling between the two locations.
“We’re between here and New York, so a lot of those memento-mementos are here and in New York, so I didn’t lose that, thank goodness,” she shared. “There were some mementos that we lost. But yeah, it’s tough.”
