HERide, a rideshare platform prioritizing women’s safety, has secured a historic contract with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, becoming the first Black-owned company to do so.
Founded in 2019 by Jillian Anderson and DeVynne Starks, HERide stands out for its commitment to passenger safety. Anderson, drawing from her own experiences as a rideshare driver, recognized the need for a service that addressed women’s concerns, especially during nighttime rides.
“Our focus is on women because we understand that women have had more issues at an alarming rate than men have. But that is not to disregard that men have not had similar issues,” Starks explained.
HERide conducts rigorous background checks on drivers and incorporates in-ride security features to ensure the safety of its passengers. Operating exclusively in Atlanta, the platform boasts 250 active drivers, over 19,000 users, and 33,000 app downloads.
The partnership with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of the busiest airports globally, is a significant milestone for HERide.
“This year has been very rewarding,” remarked Anderson. “We finally have signage in the airport, which has increased our numbers times 10.”
Being the first female-friendly rideshare service at the airport underscores HERide’s commitment to safety and inclusivity.
The achievement also marks a milestone for Black-owned tech companies, showcasing their capabilities in securing contracts with major institutions.
Looking ahead, HERide is seeking investors to lead a seed round, further fueling its growth and impact in the rideshare industry.
