‘Your Blessings Have Your Name on Them’: Woman’s Candid IG Post on Gatekeeping by Friends and Family Trends

by Gee NY

A trending Instagram post by content creator @queenbeebailey has sparked an emotional conversation about how friends and relatives in secret competition can intentionally hold others back.

In the post, Bailey wrote:

“When some people are in secret competition with you they will try to withhold useful information in an attempt to hinder your progress. However your blessings have your name on them.”

She expanded on the sentiment in an accompanying video, sharing a personal story about a friend who moved to the United States to live with her aunt.

While the aunt was already established, with a job, an apartment, and legal immigration status, she allegedly withheld crucial information about job opportunities and immigration resources that could have helped her niece succeed.

According to Bailey, when the friend eventually secured a well-paying babysitting job, the aunt went as far as contacting her employer to try to get her fired.

“The reason for the gatekeeping is to block your progress,” Bailey said, addingg that such behavior often stems from insecurity and competition.

Despite these obstacles, the friend moved into her own apartment and thrived—proof, Bailey says, that “no gatekeeper will ever be able to stop you from receiving what the universe has for you.”

The post has resonated widely, with commenters sharing similar experiences. Instagram user @farahbisyir wrote, Yes this is true talk sis ❤️ I have experienced this with relatives, in-laws, and friends also… may God be with us always.”

Another commenter, @jamayra.candis, said, “My family did me the same way… since then I’ve disconnected from them and went no contact ❤️‍🩹.”

The discussion underscores a larger issue many face: how envy and competition, sometimes from those closest to us, can manifest as gatekeeping, and how resilience and self-reliance can overcome it.
