2017 will probably go down in history as the year that had the most progression. This year we’ve seen lots of inclusivity and diversity within the media. It’s nice that it’s finally being recognized. One person who took being inclusive to another level was, of course, Rihanna, the international star has been so influential this year that her successful makeup line Fenty Beauty is included in Time Magazine’s 25 Best Inventions of the Year.
Time announced their list earlier this month, where Fenty is praised for its ground-breaking inclusivity. The pop princess spoke to Time stating “It was important that every woman felt included in this brand, we are all so different, with our own unique skin tones, so we started with the 40 foundation shades out the gate.”
Often many women find themselves having to mix foundations and concealers in order to create a perfect match for their skin tones and lots of brands only go up to a certain shade, so it’s no wonder Fenty Beauty has had such huge success.
“I never could have anticipated the emotional connection that women are having with the products and the brand as a whole. Some are finding their shade of foundation for the first time, getting emotional at the counter,” Rihanna said. “That’s something I will never get over.” Now, let’s see more beauty brands take her lead.
Rihanna is definitely an innovator and it’s commendable that she’s being honored for such huge achievements. 2017 was definitely her year and we look forward to seeing what this “bad gal” brings into the new year!
