About every 30 days or so, supermodel Tyra Banks begins to trend on Twitter – and it’s rarely for anything good.
During last Monday’s taping of Dancing With Stars, themed after Elvis Presley, Banks made what some are calling a “creepy” comment about TikTok star Charli D’Amelio, who successfully emerged as a frontrunner for the show’s 31st season. After performing Presley’s Bossa Nova Baby with dance partner Mark Ballas, Banks commented on D’Amelio’s neck.
“Now, I love your neck,” she said. “You have the most beautiful neck in the world. I love it.”
Viewers went into an online tizzy. One viewer tweeted, “I thought Tyra Banks said something about giving deep throat or something wild, not that her neck is pretty.”
Another viewer commented, “Tyra Banks continues to single-handedly ruin each #DWTS episode.”
One viewer didn’t seem to mind Tyra’s comment.
“You have a beautiful neck” is not creepy when its coming from a supermodel who’s had to be aware of every aspect of the human body as her job of 30+ years…leave the queen #TyraBanks alone y’alllll #DWTS
Banks has been DWTS’ host since 2020, although some did not take a liking to her taking over for Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. The show’s producers introduced The Fresh Prince of BelAir star Alfonso Riberio as co-host this year.
“Dancing with the Stars has been such an important part of my life for so many years, and I am ecstatic to officially re-join this tight-knit family as co-host,” Riberio said in a statement. “Tyra and I have a longstanding friendship that I hope will resonate with all of the fans at home as we kick off this new season on Disney+.”
DWTS premiered on ABC in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular TV series in pop culture. The show features celebrities who are paired with professional dancers who compete to win the championship at the end of each season.
