Candace Owens is doing quite well of further distancing herself from the Black community after making comments about George Floyd’s family, who has served Kanye West with a cease-and-desist and possible $250 million lawsuit for disparaging remarks he made about how Floyd died.
In the Drink Champs podcast, the 45-year-old rapper said that George Floyd didn’t die at the hands of police in 2020 but from fentanyl. His claims have been widely debunked.
“I’m also sick of frivolous lawsuits,” Owens said on her podcast. “You know, if this is actually considered credible — if you can sue somebody because you’re feeling ’emotionally distressed’ because of them going out and saying things — well then I think that I have grounds to sue George Floyd’s estate.”
She continued: “I have grounds to sue George Floyd’s family for doing this little PR stunt. It’s causing me a ton of distress. I feel angry and I feel upset with the fact that I am fighting for Black America to be freed from the lies, while these people are fighting to keep them in the dark…This is unacceptable. I’m serious. I’m going to go out and I’m going to ask lawyers ‘If this is legitimate, can I sue George Floyd’s family?’ Because I should be able to.”
Her comments come on the heels of a recent stint of West’s recent downward spiral. After he appeared with Owens in a photo wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt during his Yeezy fashion show in Paris, she said in an episode of her podcast that she had her hands of a tape revealing to the world that his ex-wife Kim Kardashian “is not who she says she is.”
Ye is also under fire for anti-semitic remarks he has made in recent weeks. On a Twitter post, which has since been deleted, he wrote that he wished “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”
Adidas has since ended their contract with the Watch the Throne rapper, Balenciaga terminated their relationship with Ye, CAA dropped him as a client and MRC killed a documentary they were producing about him. Both Twitter and Instagram has suspended his accounts.
“Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness,” Adidas said in a statement.
Adidas will no longer produce Yeezy products and will cease payments to West and his companies, which NPR estimated would “hit its net income by nearly $250 million.
