A mother of seven has been shot dead by a former lover, who police are currently on the hunt to find.
Police say last Monday, William Taylor gunned down Clarice Alexander shortly after dropping her son off at school in a Chicago neighborhood at around 8:30am. Surveillance video captured the killing, according to a neighbor who spoke to ABC7 on anonymity. In the video, Williams is seen pulling up to a street corner, then walking down a pathway where he shot Alexander.
He then escaped the murder scene in a gray Chevy Malibu with severe front-end damage, according to the neighbor. He added that he has turned the video over to police and was informed not to release it to the public.
“It was 8:25 this morning, I was just waking up, turning the news on and all of sudden I heard real loud shots, six in a row, bang,” another neighbor Henry Aarosinski said. “That’s the opening that goes to the park and garage school, so at 8:30 in the morning, that’s when all the little grade school kids are going down that alley, so at least it wasn’t a little kid that got shot.”
Schools in the area were placed on soft lockdowns while police searched for the suspect. Neighbors indicated that while the neighborhood had issues in the past, things were beginning to turn around for the better.
Prior to Alexander’s death, she called the police multiple times because she thought Alexander was stalking her, according to her sister who spoke to ABC7. The last time she called police was the night before she was killed.
“The DuPage County Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigations Team (MERIT) Task Force is currently assisting Hanover Park police with the homicide investigation,” according to ABC7.
Anyone with details leading to the suspect’s arrest is asked to contact Lieutenant Ralph Gniewosz at 630-823-5516.
