16-Year-Old Kaleena Smith Becomes The First High Schooler With Adidas NIL Deal

Kaleena Smith, a 16-year-old sophomore at Ontario Christian High School, has made history as the first high school women’s basketball player to sign a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal with Adidas.

Smith, ranked as the top prospect in the Class of 2027 and a member of the USA Women’s U17 National Team, has quickly risen to prominence, earning the 2023-2024 MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year award.

The deal marks a significant milestone for both Smith and the sport, as she becomes Adidas’ first high school NIL athlete under the leadership of three-time WNBA champion Candace Parker, who was appointed president of women’s basketball at the company earlier this year.

In addition to her individual sponsorship, Smith’s high school and AAU teams will also benefit from the partnership, which includes participation in the 3SSB Circuit.

Smith joins a prestigious group of Adidas-sponsored athletes, including Chelsea Gray, Aliyah Boston, and Kahleah Copper, among others.

The young athlete shared her excitement, saying:

“I’m blessed to be part of something Candace is creating, and to get to do that with a brand like Adidas, who is taking a different approach to help grow the game for players like me.”

Adidas’ commitment to supporting young female athletes like Smith is part of a broader effort to elevate women’s basketball.

As Smith continues to dominate on the court, her groundbreaking partnership with Adidas signals the bright future of women’s sports.
