A domestic dispute in Florida ended with gunfire and an arrest after a woman allegedly shot her husband in the buttocks during an argument over cheating accusations.
Chanicia Tijuana Hernandez, 30, is now behind bars at the Broward County Jail without bond after being charged with attempted second-degree murder, according to reports from Local 10 News.
Alleged Choking Leads to Gunfire
The incident unfolded last Thursday evening, July 10, when Hernandez and her husband began arguing about infidelity. Hernandez told police that the confrontation escalated when her husband allegedly choked her in the bathroom and demanded to know the location of her firearm.
After releasing her from the chokehold, the man reportedly walked to their bedroom closet. Hernandez said she exited the room but quickly returned, retrieving a gun from her purse inside the closet.
As her husband attempted to leave the home, Hernandez allegedly confronted him, asking, โYouโre going to put your hands on me?โ He allegedly responded, โYes, b**!**โ At that point, Hernandez allegedly fired a single round, striking him in the buttocks.
Arrest and Legal Consequences
Authorities responded to the scene and determined that although Hernandez claimed she acted out of fear, her husband was attempting to leave the house at the time of the shooting and did not pose an immediate threat.
As a result, officers said the use of deadly force did not qualify as self-defense under Florida law.
She was arrested and booked into Broward County Jail. Her current legal status includes no bond, pending further court proceedings.
The husband’s current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
