Rapper Swae Lee is making it clear that his political stance remains independent, distancing himself from both major figures in U.S. politics after past controversy surrounding comments about Vice President Kamala Harris.

The “Sunflower” artist, one-half of the hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd, addressed the issue in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, nearly two years after facing backlash for encouraging fans not to vote for Harris during her 2024 presidential run. His remarks at the time sparked criticism and led some to assume he supported former President Donald Trump.

Lee pushed back on that narrative, emphasizing that he has not aligned himself with any political figure. “I don’t hate Kamala Harris,” he said, adding that he has never publicly supported any politician. He also addressed speculation about pro-Trump leanings, noting that he has never displayed support symbols such as MAGA merchandise.

Instead, Lee described himself as politically cautious and research-driven. He said his focus is on evaluating how policies affect everyday life rather than pledging loyalty to candidates. “I do my research, see what they really gonna do for the people,” he explained, stressing the importance of informed voting.

Reflecting on the viral moment that fueled the controversy, Lee said his intention was to encourage awareness, not influence support for or against any individual. He urged voters to critically examine candidates and their platforms, particularly when new figures emerge on the national stage.

Lee also revealed that he declined lucrative performance opportunities tied to political affiliations. According to him, one offer included a $90,000 payment, but he chose to turn it down. “All money ain’t good money,” he said, underscoring his reluctance to be associated with political agendas he does not believe in.

While questions remain about the origin of such offers, Lee’s message is consistent: he is not backing any political side and continues to prioritize independence over partisanship.
